In order to know what BDSM are you will first need to know what it stands for. It is typically an overlapping type of abbreviation. This abbreviation is bondage and discipline, dominance and submission and then sadism and masochism. Knowing these terms will help you to get a good idea of what it is that this term means.
Tools
It is common that tools are used during BDSM. You will need to focus mainly on types of ropes and sex toys or other elaborate types of devices. A lot of chains and whips are used during these to allow for people to dominate and have control over their partner.
Themes
The themes that go along with BDSM are most often restriction, empowerment and submitting yourself completely to any sexual urges that you may have. There will usually be a person that is being dominated and a person that is doing the dominating. The one that is dominating will usually restrict the other and tease and play with them as they see fit.
Safety
It is always a good idea to have a safe word when one is taking part in BDSM. If things are getting too intense or if you are in too much pain then you should be able to say a word that will tell your partner that you need to take a breather for a minute or 2 or stop for the night completely. This is something that is absolutely necessary as BDSM can get dangerous if the dominator does not realize that they are being too rough.
